For Panama City & Urban Areas
The capital is warm and humid year-round, but it’s also stylish and more formal in restaurants and indoor venues.
Essentials:
Lightweight pants, shorts, and breathable tops
A dress or button-up shirt for evening dinners
Comfortable walking shoes or sandals
Light rain jacket or compact umbrella
Reusable water bottle Daypack or sling bag
For Beaches & Islands (Bocas, San Blas, Isla Grande, etc.)
You’ll be in the sun, water, and sand most of the time — pack light, casual, and quick-dry items.
Essentials:
2–3 swimsuits and beach towel
Hat and Flip-flops or water shoes
Sunglasses with UV protection
Reef-safe sunscreen
Waterproof phone pouch or dry bag
Cash in small bills ($1s and $5s for boats, local vendors)
If you’re flying to Bocas or taking a ferry to Taboga, check our Getting Around Panama guide for travel options.

For Highlands (Boquete, Volcán, etc.)
The weather is cooler in the mountains — especially in the evenings — and you may do a lot of hiking or nature walks. Planning to hike Volcán Barú? Browse our Panama Tours to see what to pack for each experience.
Essentials:
Light fleece or sweatshirt
Socks, long pants or leggings
Sturdy hiking shoes or trail runners
Rain jacket or poncho
Bug spray (especially after rain)
General Travel Accessories
For general travel accessories, pack a power adapter (Panama uses 110V U.S.-style plugs), a small first-aid kit, and any prescription medications you may need.
It’s also a good idea to bring copies of your passport and travel documents, and a lightweight, foldable daypack or packable duffel for day trips. A quick-dry travel towel and Ziploc or waterproof bags will come in handy for beach days, boat rides, and protecting electronics from sudden rain.
